Does the system admin need to have an in-depth understanding of Linux and the open source components to manage the system?

No. Only a very basic understanding of Linux commands is required. Most of the administration (with the exception of the advance server configurations) is done using a initutive and easy to use GUI.
-
How easy is it to provision the servers?

A simple, easy to use and initutive GUI accessible using the HTTPS protocol is provided to enable administrators to provision the users in the domains and also define the system behaviour by setting user properties.
Class of Services ease the task further by enabling administrators to group users in categories and set the COS properties which are automatically inherited by the users.

No. All of the routine maintenance is done via a GUI. Editing of configuration files is required only for certain advanced configurations.
-
How do I monitor the health of the servers?
-
The server manager provides a console which can be used to check the current status of the system. In additions auto alerts are sent to the postmaster account which when monitored on a regular basis give a good view of the health of the system.
-
Can the servers be monitored remotely?
-
Yes. The administrative interface is accessed over the HTTPS protocol. In addition if required, administrators can directly login to the Linux system using the ssh protocol.
-
Does Mithi connect Server provide Alerts for any failures?
-
Yes. Mithi Connect Server installs and configures agents which run at predefined times and monitor the server for transactions, resources and services. The agents come preloaded with auto-cleaners, auto archivers, service restart, early warning systems, attack detection systems etc. The console has to be monitored by an administrator to keep a tab on the server's functioning. We have observed that customers who monitor the Mithi Connect server console, experience very little unscheduled down time.
-
Can I get SMS alerts on system malfunction?
-
Yes
-
Can the system have more than one administrator?
-
The server is controlled at two levels, one is the Server Manager and the other is the Domain Manager (one for each domain). There are different passwords for the Server and Domain Managers of different domains. The controls provided to the Domain Manager (add user, delete user, etc) pertain only to the domain and cannot cause any damage to the system as a whole. It is totally secure to allow different people to access the domain admin console (we do that on our server on which we host multiple customer domains besides our own). Also, the role based administration facility minimises this risk further by allowing only certain designated tasks to different administrators.
